NIC is developing – and supporting the development – of case studies that we plan to publish and help disseminate in the coming year. The cases are designed to provide valuable information about and actionable insights into how interoperability, data-sharing and advanced technologies are being used across domains to address pressing local, regional and national concerns.
From Siloes to Solutions: Getting to Interoperability in Health and Human Services:
This scan reflects the results of a systematic online search of freely available technical documents and toolkits that promote interoperability and provide guidance about how to share and integrate information from different sources. It also includes insights from interoperability experts from health, education, public health, and human services systems. The report is available for viewing and download on the web site of our NIC Leadership Partner AcademyHealth.
National Opioid Case Study
An examination of innovative initiatives around the country designed to combat the opioid/heroin epidemic, with a particular focus on promising prevention and early-detection efforts. This national case study will build on a previous version, focused on just one state, created by Stewards of Change Institute. The expanded case study will encompass projects in several states, buttressed by additional research. It will include what has and hasn’t worked, what challenges have been encountered and how they have been addressed, and information to facilitate learning and replication. Initiatives included in this case study will include the Drug Monitoring Initiative (DMI) at the New Jersey Fusion Center, which is often viewed as a model of effective interoperability and information-sharing across multiple domains, as well as other NIC partner projects throughout the U.S. that also offer transferable knowledge and insights.
